Dear friend of the Centro Artistico,

This year we are planning a different approach to the Dia de los Muertos celebration, which will fall on the evening of Friday November 2nd.   Since we do not have a home yet, but have a yard, we will be using the 120 Courshesne street location to host the event. A stage will be set up and music entertainment will be provided, as well as face painting, food, and drinks for visitors.
Community members and friends will be invited to construct mobile altars.  Kits for participation will be provided to residents, friends and artists who would like to construct, and decorate, an altar to honor loved ones.   The kit provided includes a wooden starter base, and the participant provides the decorative elements. Instruction guidelines and creative suggestions on materials will be included with the framework for the altars.
On November 2nd at 6pm, participants will meet at the Buena Vista “Plaza de las Quarto Culturas” (Stones Park) on Vista Hill & Torres to stage a parade within the streets of Buena Vista to the cultural center. Each altar needs to be carried by two people. Calaca dancers and Matachines will accompany the decorative altars along the route. Upon arrival at the cultural center, the altars will be on display for the duration of the event for a closer look at the details.
The participants will be able to take their mobile altars home at the end of the event. The evening events will consist of food and entertainment from various musical acts.
If you care to participate, please pick up your kit October 8th- 12th at the Buena Vista Grocery store. Get started now and be a part of this historical fun event. RSVP: 619 886-1892 (So we know how many kits to prepare). This event is supported in part by Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA)
