The Centro Artistico Y Cultural Buena Vista – Camino Real Gallery & artist has established the first artist in residence program

The Centro Artistico Y Cultural Buena Vista – Camino Real Gallery & artist has established the first artist in residence program with the American Eagle Brick company. She will be working at the studio on vista hills week of July 5 through July 29, 2011 in Buena Vista and her work progress will be open to the public.
The artist is Renee McKitterick, she is a UNM Grad student ( ex student of the Land Art program of the American Southwest) in ceramics who will be hosted by the Centro. She will carve the brick sculpture with an assistant and participants from the community, in turn will bring in members of the community to take an interest in the clay and art making with this medium. The art work speaks in-behalf of Buena Vista's past as a series of crosscut tree stumps symbolizing the displacement of Buena Vista community due to free-ways, dams, highway and the newly I-10 expansion project in the near future. The seating arrangement will commemorate the names of past displaced family members on to the top surface of the cross cuts. An exhibition of the collection with be presented at the Centro Artistico Y Cultural Buena Vista - Camino Real Gallery.
